Hi, my name is Doris Wylie and I've been running a full-time Reflexology practice now for over 21 years. I qualified in Reflexology with the Scottish School of Reflexology in 1998 and over the years I've studies for post-graduate qualifications, including Vertical Reflex Therapy, Reflexology and MS, Maternity & Fertility Reflexology and Foot Reading. I'm also qualified in Indian Head Massage, Teaching Relaxation, Neuro-Linguistic Programming and Metamorphic Technique, so if you're feeling a bit stressed I can offer lots of practical support. I'm a fully insured member of the Association of Reflexologists, the leading UK body for Reflexologists.
Reflexology for Stress and General Health
eflexology uses finger pressure on the feet to create a feeling of deep relaxation. It's simple and can be gently beneficial. The treatment lasts for about 1hour and you only need to take off shoes and socks. It should not be tickly or painful. A single treatment can be wonderfully relaxing, but the best results are achieved with regular treatments.
Although there's no scientific evidence to support it, reflexologists believe that reflexology may have a calming and harmonising effect on the body, promoting better health and wellbeing. By the end of a treatment clients normally feel deeply relaxed and often report getting a great night's sleep. The following day they may notice an increase in energy levels and feel more balanced and better able to cope with life's ups and downs.
Often times, when we're stressed, our reaction is to work harder, longer, faster - which creates even more stress and usually still doesn't get the job done. When you're stressed, the best thing you can do is .... STOP.
Now, honestly, how many of us have the self-awareness, self-discipline and clear-sightedness when we're under pressure, to stop and relax. Not me, that's for sure! Book your reflexology treatment today and give yourself an hour to let your mind and body recover and rebalance.
Maternity Reflexology
Having a baby can be a wonderful experience, but it does create huge physical and emotional changes as your body gets ready for birth. Maternity reflexology is a specialised treatment which aims to help balance and relax in preparation for birth and it may help relieve some of the discomforts of pregnancy.
Everyone had different needs and wishes and you can choose what works best for you, but best practice for maternity reflexology treatments would be:
week 1 - 12 1 treatment at least every 4 weeks week 13 - 32 1 treatment at least every 4 weeks week 33 - 38 1 treatment at least every 2 week week 38 on 1 treatment every week until onset of labour
INDUCTION REFLEXOLOGY: Although there's no scientific evidence to support it, reflexologists believe that working on specific parts of the foot and leg can promote uterine contractions. Where they have gone beyond their "due date", some women opt to try this natural approach in the hope of avoiding a medical intervention.
Induction Reflexology should not be undertaken prior to 40 weeks and clients should always seek permission from their doctor or midwife prior to booking an induction reflexology treatment.
POST NATAL REFLEXOLOGY:After the birth, everything changes and looking after a newborn can be wonderful, but also stressful and tiring. A Post-Natal Reflexology treatment can help give your body a chance to rest and relax and restore a sense of balance to mind and body. The more relaxed mum is, the more content baby is likely to be, so take some time out to care for yourself. It's not selfish, it's just common sense!
Fertility Reflexology
Fertility Reflexology is suitable for couples who wish to take a more natural approach to conception or are about to undergo assisted fertility treatment.
The emotional highs and lows that trying for a baby can cause, can lead to stress, anxiety and even depression - creating a very unhelpful mental and physical environment for conception. Fertility Reflexology is a natural, non-invasive treatment that can help relax the mind and body, creating a more favourable condition for conception.
The calming and relaxing effects of Fertility Reflexology can support and prepare clients in the lead up to IVF procedures. Fertility Reflexology is suitable and in fact, desirable, for both partners.
Reflexology is not a substitute for qualified medical advice. Always consult your doctor.
