"It was the brexit of times, it was the worst of times", or something like that. Regardless of how you voted in the recent referendum, change is now inevitable. And uncertainty is rife! So how well do you deal with change and uncertainty? Usually, change is much easier to deal with when we have some control over the decision to change and the process by which change will happen. In both instances you can manage the change according to your personal comfort levels. What is more difficult, is when change is imposed on you without any or little measure of choice, and when the process by which the change will take place is uncertain and poorly communicated. So how do we stay centred and calm in times of great change either personal or global? The key is in the word "centred" or "balanced". And complementary therapies like Reflexology and Indian Head Massage are designed to do help bring us back into balance. We commonly expend a great deal of our energy connecting with and trying to influence the world and people around us in our desire to control, create, and impress others and situations. So much so, that we often forget to collect that energy back in. The net result can be exhaustion - physical, mental and emotional - and a feeling of being depleted. It's a bit like having a bank account with lots of money flowing out, but no money going back in. It won't take long until that account is overdrawn! The best way to manage change is to manage your response to change and that means managing yourself. Looking after yourself in mind, body and emotion will help you to have lots of energy, feel relaxed and emotionally balanced. And this will help to improve your creativity, reduce stress and give you a sense of power or feeling more in control of your own circumstances. Self-care is a powerful way to change the locus of power and control from external to internal: it's a way to reclaim all that energy that we all send outwards into the world. Over the 17 years that I've been in practice as a Reflexologist, one of the most common comments that clients report about the benefits of Reflexology is "it helps me cope better". Now that may sound a bit vague and unspecific, but most people recognise that feeling of being able to "cope better". For me, that feeling of being able to cope better is brought about by self care, by coming back into balance, by charging up your energy reserve rather than depleting it. So, I'd ask you to indulge in extreme self care in these turbulent times (and have regular Reflexology or Indian Head Massage treatments). Or any other treatments, pampering, or indulgences that boost energy, restore your spirit and calm your mind.
